LOVE IT - my 7 year old is so psyched it is great. The missus is making objections to the family lunch I have arranged but I have accomodated or overridden them. I feel so sorry that she has been robbed throughout her life of the fun of Xmas and will do what I can to help her to enjoy it without guilt - she would enjoy it a hell of a lot more if she could just overcome the conditioning in her head..

Earthly Organization Reset - What Would You Do?
by committeechairman ini've been reading and posting comments on this site for a while now (about a year) and the comments i see indicate that many who are here have good ideas about what would be required if either (1) jehovah's witnesses were completely reset and the whole framework of belief and organization were started over or (2) if a completely new organization were built.
this assumes, of course, that you believe god exists and that he is interested in human affairs (i know some of you don't).
it also assumes that you do not believe that the "heritage" of jehovah's witnesses has such great weight and importance that it precludes putting all beliefs and procedures on the table to examine them and change them if necessary.. given all this, what do you believe should be the beliefs and organization of true worship today?

What a very odd question. The only solution is an Anarchist one - tear it all down and don't replace any of it, at all and leave the freed minds to do some self-exploration. It is scary that you guys think the model can be improved on. It is organised religion which is the problem - the WBTS/Witnesses are just an extreme control version of organised religion.

What's With INVISIBLE ??
by Cold Steel inthe 'dubs' came by today just as the wife and i were on the way out.
we chatted a few moments and the two guys wanted to know if i had any questions about the bible.
so i asked them to drop by in a day or two and they left me with two thin magazines and a book they jokingly referred to as "the gold nugget.".

Invisible return was what Nelson Barbour came up with to explain his second failed prediction of Christ's return (in 1874 the first was in 1873) which was later adopted by Russell. Its genious is that it can't be disproven. This reminded me of a converstation I had with my 7 year old who is experiencing cognitive dissonance re Santa - he asked me: 'Why won't Santa deliver my presents when I am awake?' Me: 'Because he doesn't want you to see him.' Him: 'But he talked to me in the Grotto at the Department Store so why doesn't eh want me to see him when he comes to our house?...oh and is he the real Santa or was the one I saw last year the real Santa cos the one I saw last year had a bigger belly?' I was very proud of his critical thinkng skills but tried to answer in a way that didn't mislead him. I can see why he has never bought the BS at the KH. It is a pity his mother is yet to exercise the same question asking ability.

Billy - Wouldn't they say: 'spend more time preaching and no time w@nking'? - if it was the other way round, people would definitely be happier

Is asking questions of logic about a Global Flood effective in waking loved ones?
by BU2B ini was thinking about using a tactic of asking questions revolving around "noahs flood" to try to start my wife doing some serious thinking.
unlike doctrine that cannot often be proven one way or another, this issue can be proven beyond the slightest doubt that it is impossible.. i was thinking about asking a question something like this "i was reading about coral reefs today, and they sure are amazing!
what amazed me the most is how long it takes for them to build the reef, and how long they live!

I tried that with the missus cos it seemed such an obvious point of attack but once again this proved pointless as the cognitive dissonance kicked in and she walked away without responding

The expression 'if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen' seems fitting

I am not an apostate and have never been a Witness but I have closely observed the Witnesses and read a lot of WBTS material and doctrine. I agree wholeheartedly with those who identify the WBTS organization as a cult for its use of BITE control over its membership. 'Cult' is a loaded word and causes a very negative reaction so you may find 'high control religion' a more acceptable description. In any case the point is that the WBTS ahs perfected over a long timeways to control the behaviour, information, thoughts and emotions of its membership. They are most effective at this when they are able to influence chidlren through parents who are Witnesses. They use publications such as My Bible Stories etc. and indoctrination at KHs to induce phobias in these children of Armageddon and the consequences of lack of faith in Jehovah, demons, Satan, doubts about the organisation, apostates, churches and other religions (Babylon the Great) and worldly people. One of the reasons for doing this is to discredit any alterantive sources of information and to make beleivers feel profoundly uncomfortable if they even start to doubt what they ahve been told by the organisation. They then identify themselves with Jehovah such that the organisation and Jehovah are indistinguishable in the minds of believers and use the phobias they have induced to make believers believe they are only safe from what they fear when they are part of the organisation. They back this up with shunning and vilification of those who leave to make leaving the organisation a deeply traumatric experience. Do I need to continue?

So what types of people actually flourish under the JW regime?
by Julia Orwell ini sure as eggs know which types don't:.
creative types: to do well at a creative industry one must dedicate a lot of time to developing one's talent, and as a jw one simply doesn't have time.
since writing a story or painting a picture doesn't contribute in any way to prestudy, meetings or fs results it's considered useless anyway.

nopnjwspouse has hit it on the head - people who are externally rather than internally directed, which will often correlate to low education levels.
